To confirm a PPJK is registered with Indonesian Customs, check the PPJK registration number (customs access) on the company's documents, verify the legal entity is properly incorporated, make sure it employs a certified Customs Specialist, and check association membership. A bogus broker usually cannot produce any of this evidence.
Using an unregistered PPJK is more than an administrative risk: your documents are handled by a party with no authority to file them, your goods can be held, and if a customs violation occurs, you as the owner of the goods carry the consequences too. These five steps confirm your broker is registered with Indonesian Customs.
- Customs Access from DJBC
- NPPPJK
- Certified Customs Specialist
- ≥ 1
- Company Legality
- NIB + NPWP
- Active Customs System Account
- CEISA
Step 1: Ask for Proof of Customs Access (PPJK Number)
A registered PPJK must have completed customs registration with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and hold a PPJK registration number (NPPPJK) / customs access as a PPJK. Ask for a copy of the registration decision — a legitimate broker will not object to showing it. If they dodge the question, that is the first red flag and usually reason enough to stop there.
Step 2: Verify It with Customs
Do not stop at a piece of paper — documents can be forged. Verify directly with DJBC through one of its official channels:
- Bravo Bea Cukai contact center, 1500225 — give the company name and the PPJK number you want verified
- Your local customs office (the KPPBC where the broker operates) — the information desk
- The official DJBC channels at www.beacukai.go.id for customs registration information
Step 3: Check the Company Is a Legal Entity
A PPJK has to be a properly incorporated business. Match the company name against its NIB in the OSS system (oss.go.id) and confirm the tax number (NPWP) is active. Watch the names line up, too: the contract, the invoice and the payment account must all be in the same company's name — never a personal account.
Step 4: Confirm There Is a Certified Customs Specialist
A PPJK is required to employ a Customs Specialist (Ahli Kepabeanan) who has passed the Ministry of Finance's customs certification. Ask who theirs is and request a copy of the certificate. A broker with no active Customs Specialist does not meet the conditions to operate.
Step 5: Check the Track Record and Association Membership
- Membership of a logistics or customs association such as ALFI/ILFA or GAFEKSI — not an absolute guarantee, but another layer of accountability
- Track record: how long they have operated, clients who can be contacted, reviews from other importers
- A real office you can visit — not just a WhatsApp number

Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether a PPJK is registered or not?
Ask for the PPJK registration number (customs access) and verify it with Indonesian Customs through the Bravo 1500225 contact center or your local customs office, then check the company's legality (NIB, NPWP), the presence of a certified Customs Specialist, and its track record.
What is a PPJK registration number (NPPPJK)?
The identifying number the Directorate General of Customs and Excise issues to a PPJK that has passed customs registration — now part of its customs access. Without it, a company has no authority to handle customs obligations on someone else's behalf.
What is the risk of using an unregistered PPJK?
Your customs documents are filed by a party with no authority to file them: goods risk being held, fines follow, and if a violation occurs (under-invoicing, for example) the owner of the goods shares the legal and financial consequences.
Is a freight forwarder automatically a registered PPJK?
No. A forwarder arranges transport (under a SIUJPT license); to handle customs obligations it must also be registered as a PPJK with its own customs access. Many forwarders are — but always check rather than assume.
